Botanical Dyed Silk Scarf With Turquoise Bolo
Barbara and Nadene will be working together to build a workshop collaboration that will teach you all the skills needed to design and develop a turquoise pendant bolo and botanical dyed silk scarf. A well-designed workflow will weave nicely between all skills, allowing the participants to work at their own pace and begin to see their practice.
In this workshop, we will explore transforming fresh flowers and botanical dye extracts into vibrant dye colors and patterns while creating a beautiful silk bandana. Students will learn how to set up their home dye kitchen create a hot extraction bath and dye fabric. We will cover mordanting (preparing your material to bond with the dyes), changing the color of your dye bath with household ingredients, and shifting colors on your dyed fabric with acid and alkaline modifiers.
Students will also develop basic metalsmithing skills required to make a sterling/turquoise pendant bolo. Students will get a taste of soldering, joining, and stone setting to finish their project. Together we’ll enjoy creative discussions and build a community to share our knowledge and resources. Cost includes all materials and lunch.
